Fantasy is an additional feature we offer for certain tournaments. It allows fans of your tournament to draft a team of 12 players and earn points based on the performance of those 12 players in a specific event at your tournament. It's a great way to keep attendees and spectators engaged and entertained!

To see how Fantasy works from the perspective of attendees/participants, check out this article.

Bonus Questions

Bonus questions are a way for players to get a few more points on their roster. What questions are asked depend on the game, but generally ask for hard-to-guess specific numbers relating to the tournament's results. Some questions can be scored automatically based on reported game data, but others require information tracking to score accurately. As a rule, anything that can be answered with reported game data can be scored automatically (ex: stage, score, life/stock count, character data, etc). Conversely, anything that can't be reported with game data will need to be tracked manually (ex: "Will there be a perfect in top x?"), and you'll need to keep track of the data so you can provide this information to us after the event.

Prizing

You can offer prizes for attendees who do well in Fantasy! Prizes will be displayed on the Fantasy tab of your tournament. However, prizes are not a requirement to run Fantasy. You will need to provide your own prizing.

How Fantasy Improves Your Event

Fantasy has seen high profile use on our site among larger events such as EVO, Genesis, and The Big House, but it is often not taken advantage of for smaller events. Some benefits are:

  • Attendees become more involved and discuss your tournament in the time leading up to it. This generates more local attention for your event.

  • Increased spectator engagement at the event. Attendees spectate and discuss more matches.

  • Attendees stay longer at the event to see results. Many people who would otherwise leave normally stay to watch their best players compete.

How to Enable Fantasy

Interested in enabling Fantasy for your tournament? We currently enable Fantasy on a case-by-case basis. You can contact us via email at hello@start.gg to request it, OR send us a message via Intercom. However, please note that this does not guarantee that we'll be able to add fantasy to your tournament!

If we are able to enable Fantasy, there are some important requirements:

  • There must be 2+ days before your tournament

  • Seeding must be complete for the event you wish to enable Fantasy for (i.e. Melee Singles, Rocket League 2v2, etc)

  • If applicable, send us additional or changed bonus questions (refer to 6a in "How Fantasy Works")

  • During your event, report game data (characters, maps/stages, etc.) for top 8 matches. This is used to score the bonus questions.

  • Provide answers to additional bonus questions after the tournament

If you have any additional questions, please contact us via support@start.gg or by using the blue Intercom chat bubble.
